I'm Barbara Barker, an author who specializes in WHAT IFS because imagining the worst is my favorite hobby. I write Science Fiction books with a healthy dose of heart and hope because I believe that when the end comes, someday, there will be more people who pull together than those who turn on each other. I always enjoy it when the circumstances in a book are a little off-kilter, creating quite a challenge for the characters. Some of my favorite writers are Steven F. Freeman, Dean Koontz, James Rollins, Warren Fahy, Greig Beck, Peter Clines, Scott Sigler, Jeremy Robinson, Stephen King, Tom Abrahams, Mark Hobson, Douglas Preston, and Lincoln Childs.  

 

When it comes to movies and shows, I have a wide range of interests, from Godzilla to Only Murders in the Building. But what truly adds flavor to my entertainment is humor, which I consider the icing on the cake. It's a key element in my writing, making it more relatable and enjoyable for my readers. 

 

I grew up in Waukegan, Illinois, and spent my adult years in Florida and Virginia, finally ending up in Kansas City. I've had a varied career, and I have lots of interests in all kinds of subjects, especially meeting so many different people with contrasting goals and ideas who are all trying to live together on this planet.
